When is there the most iodine at the seaside? Plan a healthy vacation in Grzybowo

Most of us associate holidays by the Baltic Sea with the hot summer, but if your main goal is to improve your health and strengthen your immunity, you should look at the calendar a bit differently. Iodine, that precious element we seek so much in Grzybowo, is not always present in the air in the same concentration.

Here are the key facts that will help you plan your “iodine harvest.”

Season: Winter and autumn beat summer

Contrary to what you might think, we don’t inhale the most iodine during hot sunbathing in July. The highest concentration of iodine in the coastal strip is recorded from autumn to early spring (October – March).

Why is that? The key is the sea’s dynamics. Iodine is released into the atmosphere from seawater primarily through the process of waves breaking. The stronger the wind and the more turbulent the Baltic Sea (storms), the more so-called marine aerosol rises into the air. It is these tiny droplets of salt water that carry particles of iodine, magnesium, and sodium.

Weather: Look for wind and waves

Sunny, windless weather is good for sunbathing, but not for inhalation. For your walk to be most effective for your thyroid and respiratory system, choose days with:

  • Windy: The stronger the wind from the sea, the further inland the aerosol reaches.
  • During and right after a storm: This is the peak moment. Turbulent waves hitting the shore act like a giant, natural inhalator.
  • Rainy and humid: High air humidity helps iodine particles stay in the atmosphere and makes them penetrate our airways more easily.

Where and how to walk to inhale the most iodine?

You don’t have to run along the beach to benefit from iodine, but it’s worth keeping a few rules in mind:

  • Shoreline: The highest mineral saturation occurs directly at the shore, within a zone of about 200–300 meters from the sea. Every step closer to the water is a “stronger” dose.
  • Deep breaths: During your walk, try to breathe deeply from the diaphragm. This allows the microelements to reach the furthest alveoli in your lungs.
  • Duration: A short walk is not enough. For the body to truly benefit from the coastal microclimate, it is worth spending at least 45–60 minutes outside daily.

Summary

If you dream of a natural iodine treatment, Grzybowo outside the high season is the perfect choice. Wide, empty beaches and the dynamic, autumn-winter sea create a unique, open-air sanatorium here.

Come, breathe deeply, and recharge your inner batteries when nature gives its most!
